TRANSFER RUMOR: Aleksey Miranchuk agrees to join Atlanta United
The deal could be wrapped up by the end of the week, according to a report.
It appears that Atlanta United are one step away from welcoming a new Designated Player to the club. After some radio silence, Gianluca Di Marzio has followed up on his earlier report of an agreement between Atalanta and Atlanta United by saying that Aleksey Miranchuk has signed off on the deal.
Di Marzio says that the midfielder has agreed in general terms to join the Five Stripes with some minor details to be ironed out. He also states that the transfer could be completed as early as Friday.
Presumably the last step preventing Miranchuk from officially becoming an Atlanta United player is him passing medical tests.
A lot about this transfer rumor is clouded in uncertainty. Miranchuk is far from a superstar in European soccer, but has proven to be a quality role player for one of the best teams in Serie A. Can he translate that quality into a starring role in MLS? That will be the biggest question surrounding the move, if it is completed.
We’re almost there, it seems. What do you make of the potential move?
I have a bad feeling about this.
I’m not sold. I’ve seen some of his metrics and they look impressive. But they’re only from 1500 minutes. Barco has had some amazing stretches of 15 games. Doesn’t make him a transformative player.
