I'm not mad about this transaction. I generally enjoyed watching GG, but he's been relatively flat this season, in and out with injuries, and if someone is willing to pay double our getting price that's just too sweet an offer to pass up.

I'd assume this means a likely signing during the summer window is already lined up, though we may see a loan as opposed to a buy at CF. Then we hold the DP slot open until the winter or bring in someone we can buy down to give the new manager at least one DP pick to work with.

I guess. We seem to get obsessed with the magical signing out there that will solve all our woes. Our history of signing DPs is pretty poor though. So I’ll keep my fingers crossed, but I want an established name, big $$, and prime age.

For a recognizable striker, that's a tough market. The most valuable CF in MLS (per Transfermarkt) is Cucho at $14M. Looking in that general area for guys who fit the criteria GL has mentioned for DPs (23-28, successful in multiple leagues) and are in the final 2 years of their contract: Adam Armstrong from Southampton (21g/13a in 3738'); Patson Daka from Everton (7g/5a in 1095'); Moussa Dembele from Al-Ettifaq (12g/1a in 1949'); Antony Martial from Man United (only 1g/0a in 444' last season but a free agent). I'm not sure if any of them would be a good fit for the club, but honestly anyone from a PL side would be an amazing get. Martial would be particularly interesting as he's a free agent and given his status at ManU last season he's probably hungry to get back to a starting slot.

That's about all in the $10-20MM range. Lower and there's a ton of options, any higher and you're unlikely to convince them to leave their current club for MLS.
