*Wild conspiracy theory alert* I don't typically write such things down, but I'm interested in the thoughts of others on the possibility:
The timing of the move to me is interesting. There is nothing all that special about the Wednesday after Labor Day. Why not can him immediately following the end of the transfer window, when they failed to bring in the 2nd DP they wanted? What's the difference between then and now?
To me, the biggest difference is that if he had fired Boca immediately, a number of the most vocal critics of the team would have reversed course and kept their STM. It is also after the deadline for FM to reactivate their lost status. My working theory is that Boca was kept on board until after the dust had settled and the wait list had cleared out the majority of the STM inventory to bring in new blood who are excited about the direction and potential of the team now, as opposed to lamenting, ad nauseum and however justifiably, about how the team has been ruined and they've been jerked around, etc etc.
GL could be trying to rebuild the makeup of the supporters in the stands just as much as the players on the field.
So, let's see what is next? He single handedly dismantled our winning team, from 2019 until 2024 he has made the worst decisions ever. Not sure why has lasted this long. Garth moves at a pace that would not work anywhere except Atlanta. His leadership so far is nothing short of well nothing. The only two moves that have been worth a crap are firing Pineda and Bocanegra. Otherwise, nothing. Talks a lot of junk but nothing to follow up his metrics and numbers. The theme is well Nothing. Is that a message for Rob that he won't be the next coach as they announced they are searching. He has done a great deal with the mess they handed him.
In November it will be two years since Garth took over. What has he accomplished / done? I would say that so far, it has been a disaster. Decisions just take too long and the club isn’t moving at the pace needed to succeed and thrive. We need strong leadership. I know he has a great track record so I am hopeful but so far he has been as big a flop as we’ve had.
Cleared 20+ poor contracts off the books, some of whom I never would have expected to go before they expired.
Overseen the signing of the most talented crop of players since 2019.
Closed the most lucrative collection of sales in MLS history.
Completely overhauled the player recruitment strategy and data science departments.
Kept his cool and only forced out individuals when they had proven they had nothing left to give the organization as opposed to instilling a culture of "if the fans turn on you so will we" which would have caused turmoil in future recruitment.
So yeah, I'd say he's done pretty well for himself over the past couple of years. And now, with a new VP/TD and permanent manager incoming, the last of the albatross contracts expiring, and an aboslutely massive warchest of $$, he's positioned the club at the precipice of an FC Cincinnati-level turnaround.
FINALLY! five stripes haha Seriously though thanks Carlos, could not be happier you’re leaving though and should have been before Pineda in my opinion.
Rudderless a lot of make over but no clear plan. He had success and some failures it happens in sports your not always up. I sometimes think we just make moves just to follow the model of other “big clubs” the club is still stuck in neutral with all the turn over. I just see a bunch of finger pointing and lack of accountability. How do you scream we are back but stuck in motion
Looking forward to the article evaluating his tenure. You can certainly argue who deserves credit for bringing the players in that led to the immediate success- Tata, Eales- but he was undoubtedly a focal point of building out the roster (and destruction).
I kinda feel like the rebuild started in 2020. We just haven’t built anything worth a rip yet. Does rebuilding a rebuilt piece of junk count as a new rebuild…….or the same rebuild?
Who are we complaining about firing next?! Blank Out!

I agree 1000 percent he is wasting our time with his “measured” approach…..sickening

I’m feeling what the people of Oz must have felt when finding out the Wicked Witch was dead
Finally....now we just need a new technical director, new manager, 2 new DPs, a new goalkeeper and we'll be all set. MLS Cup or bust in 2025!

Amen
Long overdue. But thanks Carlos for all you done
