Yeah, I 100% agree. That $1.4M (even as GAM) doesn't actually help our cap space given Amador's budget charge of only 250K. There is no way to replace him effectively for a similar amount. That's what we should be caring about in a salary capped league.
I miss Andrew Gutman. I first saw him in a pre-season match at Birmingham in 2021 and was VERY impressed. That continued through the 2022 season, but like Brooks, became less effective for whatever reason. He has been reinvigorated in Chicago, and I look forward to see him back here in July.
I don't know that he became less effective in Atlanta, he just had some defensive limitations that became more apparent. I don't think he is as well-suited for a back four as he is as a wingback in a back five. Not sure we have had anybody with the ability to unpredictably disrupt/unlock defenses since he left : (
