Atlanta United vs. Minnesota United: Player Ratings
Rating the performances of the Five Stripes
Atlanta United fell to Minnesota United, 2-1, on Saturday night to extend their winless streak to five matches. This is the second straight loss at home and the third without a win.
A very poor 85 minutes was not able to be rescued by a frantic final flurry of chances. Simply a result that cannot happen for a club that is supposed to be a top tier one in MLS.
Here is my take on how the players did individually.
Player Ratings
GK: Brad Guzan - 6
Three saves to minimize the damage. Could he have saved either of the goals? I’m not sure. Am I mad about the result and taking it out with these ratings? Absolutely.
LB: Caleb Wiley - 4
One of Caleb’s worst showings in a while. His sloppiness on the ball and indecisiveness was a reflection of the whole team. He and Muyumba coughed up the ball in a very bad part of the field leading to the second goal.
CB: Luis Abram - 4
Struggled mightily in the air, costing his team in the process. He nearly put himself in a DOGSO spot after misjudging a ball early in the match. Then had a similar situation cause a miscommunication with Guzan that led to a comical series of errors and a golden chance for the Loons.
CB: Noah Cobb - 5
Less mistakes than his CB partner, but didn’t have a ton to do other than watching the ball go into the net.
RB: Brooks Lennon - 5
Despite being credited with four key passes, a lot of them coming late in the match, it feels like teams have figured out Atlanta’s gameplan of playing through him in attack and have shut it down entirely.
MF: Bartosz Slisz - 5
Didn’t have many noticeable errors, but didn’t really put his stamp on the match either.
MF: Tristan Muyumba - 4
Another poor showing for Tristan and it’s starting to get worrying. Lost possession in a crucial area to allow Minnesota to double their second half lead. Didn’t have much in the way of defensive actions.
MF: Thiago Almada - 5
Four key passes. Two shot attempts. One big chance created. Not good enough for someone who wants to play at a high level in Europe soon.
LW: Saba Lobjanidze - 6
The goal saved his rating from being in the toilet with everyone else’s. It was a poor overall performance in attack from him. To his credit, he’s still one of the few who works his butt off no matter the score or situation. You have to give him credit for that.
ST: Giorgos Giakoumakis - 5
Unlucky at times, but doesn’t look like his usual dangerous self. As he goes, so goes Atlanta United. And right now, he’s not going.
RW: Edwin Mosquera - 4
Adds an attacking dynamic to get into danger areas that Tyler Wolff doesn’t, but is just at inept at the final product aspect. Not good enough to start.
SUB: Daniel Rios - 7
Continues to be a surprising and productive addition to the squad. Showed some very nice composure and quality to set up the only goal off the bench.
SUB: Tyler Wolff - 5
Looked better off the bench and actually made some things happen when he got into attacking positions.
SUB: Stian Gregersen - 5
Looks good enough to start to me. Put him in.
SUB: Nick Firmino - NR

Pineda Out Probability - 15%
The time isn’t here yet but the questions will be fair until this thing turns around.
Why are we not talking more about Pineda playing Saba out of position? When he is on the right he contributes more. He needs to stop playing him on the left to make up for the lack of depth there. As soon as he was switched back, he scored. It’s not rocket science.
100 matches is long enough to see that Pineda isn't it. 4 wins in 40 on the road and can't even win at home now. We have seen too many sloppy and lifeless performances like this one duringhis tenure. Coaching is about getting the best our of your players, and he hasn't. It's time to make a change. Bring back Rob Valentino.
