TRANSFER RUMOR: Racing Club to sign Santiago Sosa on permanent deal
The first offseason domino appears to have fallen already.
Atlanta United are gearing up for their Eastern conference semifinal against Orlando City this week. But that hasn’t stopped the transfer mill from spinning as silly season rapidly approaches.
According to the always reliable Cesar Luis Merlo, the Five Stripes could be about to both cash in on an asset and free up a valuable u22 initiative slot. His report on the bird app states that Racing Club have agreed to trigger their option to buy Santiago Sosa on a permanent deal. Merlo says that Atlanta is set to receive around $4 Million in the sale and also retain a 20% sell-on percentage.
Sosa signed with Atlanta United in 2021 from River Plate. He appeared 63 times for the club.
If this move comes to fruition, it would give Garth Lagerwey and his staff some much-needed wiggle room when it comes to the u22 slots. Sosa was on loan with Racing Club but was set to return to Atlanta with an option for the 2025 season left on his contract. Fellow Argentine midfielder Franco Ibarra is in the same situation, with the club having a decision to make on his option after their season comes to an end.
The upcoming offseason guarantees to be one of the most eventful and active windows in club history. This rumor just goes to show how much work the front office has in front of them.
