Transfer Rumor: Atlanta United close to signing U22 defensive midfielder

According to Nico Musetti, a journalist from Uruguay, Atlanta United are in advanced negotiations to sign 21-year-old defensive midfielder Mauricio Amaro from Defensor SC.
Musetti says that Amaro could travel to the U.S. this week to finalize the deal and that Atlanta would be paying a transfer fee of around $3 million for him.
Amaro is a product of Defensor and has appeared 58 times for them since breaking into the first-team in 2023.
It’s no secret that Atlanta United have needed a defensive midfielder for some time. They also have a tendency to look towards South America when scouting young players, so this rumor makes all the sense in the world.
