TRANSFER RUMOR: Atlanta United close to signing Albania international center back
The first summer reinforcement seems imminent
We have our first Bogert Bomb of the summer! According to the esteemed Tom Bogert, Atlanta United are nearing a deal to sign 26-year-old center back Enea Mihaj on a free transfer.
Mihaj is an Albania international that has represented the national team 19 times.
If the deal is finalized, the defender would be eligible to suit up with the Five Stripes on July 24 when the MLS secondary transfer window opens.
It’s no secret that Atlanta are in dire need of help at the center back position. The team has leaked goals all season and have had some injuries hit the depth chart pretty hard.
This potential signing might feel a bit familiar as it is very reminiscent of the acquisition of Pedro Amador last summer. A player in the middle of his prime joining the club on a free transfer from a Portuguese league. Mihaj has spent the last three seasons with Primeira Liga side Famalicão where he played 72 games.
Obviously, nothing is done until the contract is signed and the player is holding up a shirt in front of cameras. However, this seems to be the first step of the summer towards getting this roster some desperately-needed help.
I think we are trying to set a record to see how many players we can send off on international duty.
Good on Chris for identifying an issue and addressing it.
