The potential pros and cons of Mauricio Amaro
signing a U22 to play a major role is a major risk
Atlanta United have signed defensive midfielder Mauricio Amaro to a U22 deal after completing a reported $3 million transfer. Amaro is clearly intended to be the team’s starting No. 6, and, well, there’s absolutely no way to tell whether that’s a good or bad thing.
Atlanta United clearly, clearly needed an upgrade at the position. Tristan Muyumba has been slightly above average at his best and a 12th player for opponents at his worst. Is Amaro good enough to be a plus starter in MLS? No clue. What we do know is conflicting, though.
