It’s a brief notes column today. You don’t have to think too hard about this one. Chicago set up in their typical 4-4-2 mid/low block, found a few opportunities in moments of chaos, didn’t put a shot on target and escaped with a point despite Atlanta putting up 1.73 post-shot xG on the night. On a standard day where Chris Brady isn’t standing on his head, Atlanta gets out of there with a 1-0, 2-0 win and everything is fine.
That’s not to say everything went perfectly. Atlanta misplayed passes, didn’t find players in open space on the wing a little too often and couldn’t find a final ball consistently. However, they still routinely worked the ball into the final third with relative ease and got the ball into good spots. Tactically they were set up to succeed. In most cases, they did. But sometimes the goalkeeper stands on his head.
