REPORT: Edwin Mosquera to join Santa Fe

Is a U22 spot about to come open?

According to a report from Pipe Sierra of KICK, Sino Boleta and AS Colombia, Edwin Mosquera is nearing a move to Independiente Santa Fe in Colombia. Per sources with knowledge of the situation, Five Stripe Final can confirm Sierra’s reporting.

Mosquera has been on loan at Millonarios since last summer. Despite the loan, he still occupies a U22 Initiative spot for Atlanta United. This move would clear that spot, leaving two U22 spots available. Reports indicate left back Elias Báez is set to take one of those spots.

Unfortunately, Mosquera will forever be attached to the failures of Carlos Bocanegra’s final years at Atlanta United. Famously, Atlanta was forced to recall Mosquera from his loan to Defensa y Justicia, bringing their U22 total to four, one more than what was legal. Franco Ibarra ended up as the only movable U22 of the four, and Atlanta traded him to Toronto. Ibarra never played for Atlanta again.

Mosquera made 56 appearances for Atlanta since arriving in 2022. 10 of those appearances were starts. He scored five goals and delivered four assists in that span.
