REPORT: Chris Henderson to become Atlanta United Sporting Director
The first big move appears to be coming.
Atlanta United’s offseason is about to kick into overdrive. The ever-reliable Tom Bogert dropped a bombshell on Sunday evening when he reported that Chris Henderson is set to be named the new Sporting Director of Atlanta United.
According to the report, Henderson will join Atlanta immediately, while the club is sending a second round 2026 MLS SuperDraft pick to Inter Miami to complete the deal.
Garth Lagerwey has been in search of a replacement for the position since the club parted ways with Carlos Bocanegra back in September. It seems that he has decided to reunite with someone he’s very familiar with. Lagerwey and Henderson worked in tandem with the Seattle Sounders, enjoying success with several major trophies to their name.
From the perspective of the Five Stripes, you really couldn’t have asked for a better candidate to come in and take the job. He’s vastly experienced within MLS both building talented rosters and working within the league’s unique constructs.
Atlanta certainly have a massive task ahead of them this offseason in getting this team ready to compete in 2025. This seems to be a very good first step in reaching that goal.
Check back with FSF later this week when the news becomes official for more reaction to this potential move.
