OFFICIAL: Atlanta United sign Enea Mihaj on free transfer
The Five Stripes land some much-needed defensive help.
Atlanta United have officially landed a new center back. The club announced on Wednesday that it has signed defender Enea Mihaj on a free transfer. The 26-year-old put pen to paper on a deal that will tie him to the Five Stripes through the 2028 season with an option for 2029. The exact financials of the contract were not disclosed, but it was announced that he will be classified as a TAM signing.
Injuries have ravaged the center back depth chart for Atlanta this season. Adding an experienced player like Mihaj who has played in the Portuguese first division and with the Albania national team can only go towards helping the team’s defensive struggles.
“We’re pleased to welcome Enea to the club and are looking forward to integrating him into the group ahead of the second half of our season,” Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson said. “He’s a physical center back and a vocal leader with experience from multiple leagues in Europe. We expect him to play an important role and add competition to our backline.”
Mihaj is coming off a season where he appeared 29 times for Famalicão. Ronny Deila will be hoping he can remain as healthy for his side to finish out this current season.
After watching some film on Mihaj, he appears to be a no nonsense type of defender that’s not afraid to get stuck into a tackle. He’s also capable of playing successful long passes from the back.
He will be eligible to suit up for Atlanta when the MLS secondary transfer window opens on July 24.
