OFFICIAL: Atlanta United sign Alexey Miranchuk from Atalanta
A new DP has officially arrived.
Atlanta United announced today they have signed midfielder Alexey Miranchuk on a permanent transfer from Serie A side Atalanta. His contract will run through the 2027 season with an option for 2028. He will occupy the club’s second Designated Player slot, leaving one currently unfilled.
“We’re excited to sign a player of Alexey’s quality at this point in his career from a top league in Europe,” Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “He’s an attacking player who is an excellent chance creator capable of scoring goals. Over the last four years, he has been a consistent player in Serie A and has made more than 40 combined appearances in UEFA Champions League and Europa League, while helping Atalanta win the Europa League title in 2023-24. We’re pleased to add a player with his experience and winning mentality to our group and we look forward to welcoming him to Atlanta.”
The 28-year-old Russian will require an international slot to fit on the Five Stripes’ roster. The club made a trade to address that on Monday, acquiring a spot for the rest of the 2024 season from the Seattle Sounders in exchange for $100,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money.
Miranchuk is an extremely technical player who can be deployed as both an attacking midfielder and winger. Atlanta desperately needs a spark in the attacking end and will be hoping the veteran of Italian soccer will provide just that.
If we had to acquire and intl slot for him does that mean we will need another one for a new DP or are they looking for US national?
Excited about Alexey. Seems like he can bring others into the game and score as well.
