NEWS: Stian Gregersen to miss 3-4 weeks after meniscus surgery
Atlanta United will have to find a temporary solution for their back line.
Atlanta United announced on Monday that centerback Stian Gregersen will be out for the next three-to-four weeks after undergoing successful surgery on his left meniscus.
While the initial recovery timeframe is one thing, how he responds to rehab will determine the true length of his absence from the team.
Gregersen has gotten off to a fine start since arriving on a permanent transfer this winter. Through the first three matches of the season, he seamlessly entered the starting lineup and helped stabilize a back line that was a weak point last campaign.
Gonzalo Pineda has a few choices to replace the Norwegian in his preferred starting eleven. Luis Abram is the likely favorite to be called on to take the spot as he played a big role last season and is familiar with the system. There’s also Noah Cobb, who could use so more reps in meaningful matches.
All-in-all, when you’re talking about knee injuries, a month missed seems like a best case scenario. Hopefully this will be just a minor speed bump in a great first season for Stian.
Abram's howler v OFYO - scarey bad. Developing Noa Cob under fire is appealing. I expect Cobb to play over Abram
Better than what I expected when I heard the word “meniscus”
