NEWS: Atlanta United sign Will Reilly to Homegrown Player deal
Welcome back, Will!
Atlanta United announced the return of a former Academy product on Friday. Will Reilly has agreed to a Homegrown Player contract with the Five Stripes and will join the first-team in 2025 on a guaranteed one-year deal with options through the 2028 season.
The Decatur native has spent the last four years with the Stanford Cardinal and was eligible for this year’s SuperDraft. He is a creative midfielder with the ability to play multiple roles in the center of the formation.
“Will joined the Academy in 2016 and worked his way through the development pipeline before going to college at Stanford University,” Academy Director Javier Perez said. “We’ve continued to follow his development at Stanford where he has started every match for the past three seasons. He’s a versatile midfielder who can play box-to-box or in a more holding role. We are excited to welcome him back to the club and see him begin his professional career here.”
Before heading to college, he captained the Atlanta United U-17’s and appeared 13 times for ATL UTD 2.
With so much roster overturn and a new manager entering the equation, there will be competition for many spots on the field. You can now add Will Reilly’s name to the list of players vying for minutes.
Welcome back home, Will!
This is great news. I was hoping to see ATL UTD sign Reilly to a homegrown contract, and now that box is checked. Maybe locking down one of the best college prospests in Reilly is why we felt free to trade our top 1st round draft option to D.C.? (if rumors are true) Anticipating several more good signings to come (including a new coach!) I wonder if we will add anyone from the Free Agent list? Thoughts on who is available who fits our needs?
