New Koke returns to being Koke classic

Well, that's that

The transfer rumor wheel spun and landed on “Koke to Atlanta United” a few days ago. Well, after speculation and reported mutual interest, Atlético Madrid went ahead and brought that car to a screeching halt.

The official statement from Atléti reads:

Koke will continue making history at Atlético de Madrid after extending his contract with the club until 30 June 2027. Our captain will therefore continue to wear the rojiblanco colours throughout the 2026/27 season, which officially begins on the weekend of 16 August.

To bring Koke in, Atlanta would have certainly needed to ship one of their three Designated Players out. Based on what’s been reported around this potential transfer, it seems probable that move is still on the horizon. Or, at least, that Atlanta United is actively working to make that move in service of bringing in a high-level player. Potentially even another, non-Koke, midfielder.
