I would argue soccer is one of the most team-oriented sports there is. There’s just way too much going on for one player to determine if you win or lose. There’s a reason Cristiano Ronaldo never won a World Cup or Zlatan Ibrahimovic never won the Champions League. Having a solid, well-rounded team is crucial to success. However, it surely helps to have an undeniable match-winner on your side to tilt the edge in your favor.
With all due respect to the improved Atlanta United defense, the revamped midfield, Brad Guzan’s wall, and all that jazz, Giorgos Giakoumakis has been the difference in the team’s first two wins of 2024.
