I keep trying to come up with something interesting to add for this week’s slate of games. But there’s no way around it, these matchups are straight up bummers. What could have been exciting matchups between elite Eastern Conference teams feel like back-to-back ritual slaughters.
New York City FC will be in Atlanta tomorrow and Columbus will arrive on Saturday. After that, Atlanta is set up for a second-straight Leagues Cup performance that puts their flaws on display.
And…that’s it. That’s all I’ve really got. They’re more likely to lose than not. There’s your analysis. Even if the tactics were perfect and everyone looked totally bought in, the roster is lacking the kind of high end talent that can compete with a team like Columbus. For all intents and purposes, it’s not worth digging into much more than that.
So. Yeah. Sorry. I feel like the bloated expectations for this season that have come crashing down around us can be largely traced back to me. Oops, yeah, my bad, etc.
But I’m here to try and at least make this stretch manageable. Here’s a brief guide to surviving while Atlanta United are stuck in purgatory.
