Atlanta United's Greatest Goals: The Nostalgia
The Atlanta United goals where you remember where you were...
via Atlanta United
Yamil Asad vs. New York Red Bulls (2017)
We start with the first one.
Miguel Almiron vs. NYCFC (2018)
A playoff classic goal. Doesn’t get much more picturesque than this.
Miguel Almiron vs. Houston Dynamo (2017)
Miggy scored a hat trick in this game and I’m having trouble deciding which of the first two goals to actually nominate since this night was so special for so many. So just take your pick. This one’s a combo meal.
Tito Villalba vs. Columbus Crew (2018)
Okay maybe this one isn’t the most nostalgic, but I bet you many, many fans remember Tito’s celebration here after a slaloming run.
Josef Martinez vs. San Jose (2018)
MLS After Dark had never been darker. Josef’s goal seals Atlanta’s 4-3 win after previously trailing 4-1 in the game. Yeah, that’s right.
Tito Villalba vs. New York Red Bulls (2018)
After losing his starting role for the sake of the team, Tito still managed to come up money in one of the biggest moments in Atlanta United history, all but securing the team’s place in the Final ahead of the semifinal away leg.
Josef Martinez vs. Portland Timbers (2018)
This was never not happening in this game.
Jeff Larentowicz vs. Club America (2019)
Deflections don’t matter if the ball is still whizzing past the keeper and into the corner. The man deserved this moment.
Greg Garza vs. FC Dallas (2017)
The best goal from Atlanta United’s first game in mercedes-Benz Stadium, courteousy of a brilliant dummy by Josef Martinez.
Honorable Mention: Franco Escobar vs. Portland Timbers (2018)
We couldn’t leave out a goal scored in a cup final! If there’s sufficient yelling at me in the comments I will make this one of the finalists and remove probably the Garza one.
Another Honorable Mention: Kevin Kratz vs. Montreal (2018) (x2)
Everyone remembers where they were when they saw Kevin Kratz stand up and be counted as he ripped two daggers into the heart of Montreal. (Same rules apply re: the yelling in comments.)
Alright, folks! That’s half of the field now presented for your viewing pleasure. We have two more categories to go to finish out the week before the voting begins!
Tito vs. RBNY is my favorite goal of all time. Best goal in club history so far imo.
Tito vs the Crew I was listening to the radio call going up Lookout Mountain on a particularly windy road. Felt like I was driving behind Tito the way Mike Conti called it. That will always be one of my favorites
