Atlanta United send Noah Cobb on loan; reportedly adding an attacker
So many moves, so little time.
Chris Henderson is hard at work trying to shuffle around Atlanta United’s failing roster in hopes of rejuvenating the club’s success on the field.
After bringing in two center backs just a few days into the summer transfer window, the Five Stripes appear close to swapping out another defender for an attacker in two separate deals.
Homegrown center back Noah Cobb has been deemed a surplus to needs for the rest of the season and has officially been sent on loan to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for $100K in GAM.
Even with the team severely shorthanded in the defense lately, Cobb had not been seeing the field. This move should give him a better chance at playing time.
Another unofficial-but-heavily-rumored move has linked Atlanta to Inter Miami attacker Leo Afonso. A 24-year-old hybrid forward who was drafted by a Chris Henderson-led Miami before the 2024 season.
Multiple reports state a trade is close to being completed, with the esteemed Tom Bogert reporting that Atlanta will be receiving Afonso plus $225K in GAM in exchange for a 2025 International Slot.
Ronny Deila’s side is extremely thin in attack after the departures of Xande Silva and Edwin Mosquera. This move seems like a low-risk way to supplement the attacking depth chart and possibly give a player who needs a chance to play, meaningful minutes to prove himself in MLS.
It’s been a wild opening to the window. Buckle up because there’s no telling what other twists and turns are coming.
