Garth Lagerwey spoke to Mike Conti and Jason Longshore on 92.9 The Game before Atlanta United’s 5-2 loss to Real Salt Lake on Saturday. He dropped a few hints at the kind of Designated Players that may be on their way to Atlanta.
“We're looking at guys that are playing Copa América, playing in the European Championships,” Lagerwey said. “These are guys are playing at the very highest levels of the sport. And if we can recruit these guys to come in, I think, you know, we are trying to sign the type of player that historically has not come to MLS before.”
“The type of player that historically has not come to MLS before” is a remarkably lofty goal. Hell, Lionel Messi is in MLS. So what are we actually talking about here?
